great expectations

by | Tuesday, June 7, 2011 |

a little over 3 years ago i travelled to michigan to pick up a mess of a dog who has, as layer after layer has been removed, revealed himself to be an amazing being.  flanagan’s previous “owners” kept him tranquilized 24-7 and in various other ways medicinally altered his brain chemistry and then they dropped him in a kill shelter with no meds.  you can read about our first meeting and journey home here. flanagan turned out to be one of the toughest to get through to and longest to...

so it's come to this

by | Thursday, April 14, 2011 |

i've got so many dogs up in my business i've had to resort to this... sadly i'd been using speck for a table for probably 10 minutes before i even realized i was doing it. what may be worse is i wouldn't hesitate to use her again - she was actually the perfect height and quite stable. and yes that was a delicious falafel pita i was enjoying....

feeling lucky?

by | Tuesday, March 29, 2011 |

the first person to correctly identify which two dogs i had the pleasure of transporting to the vet early this morning gets an earthdog collar (elvis was just along for the ride)...leave your answer in the comment field.  dave captured this picture as i was pulling out of the driveway...the fact that they both battled to get into the front seat before we left did not forebode a peaceful drive but they settled in once we got on the road.  their teeth cleaning today means two things for...

the no victory garden

by | Thursday, March 17, 2011 |

at first glance having a garden seems like a no-brainer for us and seems to jive quite well with our lifestyle.  we try our best at being environmentally friendly and the thought of living off the land is quite an attractive idea.   we started a small garden two years ago and dear gravy was i overwhelmed even though (if i’m being honest) i should note that dave was doing most (insert “all” here) of the work…it was apparently more the idea of the responsibility than the actual...

help...we need somebody

by | Tuesday, March 8, 2011 |

this post is the kind i don’t like…one with bad news that i hate to impart.  it is with heavy hearts that dave & i have come to the sad fact that we need to find violet a new loving family.  over the past six weeks or so she developed an issue with watson and it is only getting worse.  we sent her to an amazing trainer, nathan, for board and train for a few weeks, hoping for at the least a chilling out period and at best a solution to our problem.  while she...

mr. loquacious

by | Thursday, October 28, 2010 |

dear gravy is benny talkative, which is ironic since he can't hear a blessed thing, and i use the word talkative because it really does seem like he's just chattering away.  for some reason his mutterings ring as less annoying than just all-out barking but it does have a way of breaking you down eventually.  [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9qOH5nFOaw&fs=1&hl=en_US] i gotta give it up to violet - i would have let him have the bone just to shut him up....

pitbull awareness day wrap-up

by | Thursday, October 28, 2010 |

these pics of violet exemplify her involvement in pitbull awareness day; they are from top to bottom anticipation, participation and poopilation post event.  we had a good time, the pitbulls seemed to enjoy it, 16 dogs were neutered and many vouchers for free spays & neuters at fix for life were given out...i think we can stamp that successful.  dave posted all the pictures on our facebook page so head over there to check 'em out....

• we believe in rescue dogs and spay + neuter programs
