i bet if you did a survey of pet owners exactly half would
say they allow their pets on the furniture and the other half would say they don’t. growing up our family was on the “don’t” side which essentially led to me
spending my childhood on the floor.
solely for this reason as an adult i’ve always been firmly on the “do”
side. we probably have more couches and chairs than the average
household. if there’s a nook or a cranny where a soft, upholstered body-holder
will fit...

a little over 3 years ago i travelled to michigan to pick up a mess of a dog who has, as layer after layer has been removed, revealed himself to be an amazing being. flanagan’s previous “owners” kept him tranquilized 24-7 and in various other ways medicinally altered his brain chemistry and then they dropped him in a kill shelter with no meds. you can read about our first meeting and journey home here. flanagan turned out to be one of the toughest to get through to and longest to...

at first glance having a garden seems like a no-brainer for us and seems to jive quite well with our lifestyle. we try our best at being environmentally friendly and the thought of living off the land is quite an attractive idea. we started a small garden two years ago and dear gravy was i overwhelmed even though (if i’m being honest) i should note that dave was doing most (insert “all” here) of the work…it was apparently more the idea of the responsibility than the actual...
