help for our fair city

it took me a long time to admit to myself that i love nashville and i will accept that i'm more to blame for that than nashville.  this has been our home for 16 years and it is a city that i love and am now proud to call home. it is a kind and friendly city and now it is also a very wet city with many people facing complete devastation. sadly the national media has not been as gracious with media coverage as we need them to be but maybe that's because we are who we are...check out this...

one for the history books

i am so happy to report to you that, although nashville and surrounding cities received a deluge of water this weekend, dave, myself, the dogs and chickens and the earthdog compound have arisen unscathed.  we feel extremely fortunate (and a little unnerved) to be in this condition, especially after watching coverage all weekend of our beloved city in dire straits.  we wish peace to all affected and know we will be dealing with the implications, both to the people of tn and the...

kitchenaid stand mixer i do a lot of vegan baking and i have been lusting over this thing for years but could never justify spending that amount of money on a mixer. my old mixer was quite poorly designed – the motor turned an empty bowl fine but if i actually put any ingredients in the bowl i then had to physically turn the bowl to get it to move. i think dave got tired of my bitching because under our christmas tree this year was a beautiful new mixer for moi. the older saleswoman tried...

janey katz. the amazing art janey creates appeals to my love of animals, my love of old cars and my belief in recycling – that’s a win-win-win situation if you ask me. she uses old truck roofs and hoods to create wonderful pieces of art that make my heart sing. dave bought me this sculpture many years ago for my birthday and to this day i don’t know where he came up with the money cause in those days we didn’t have a pot to do anything in – that’s a good man...

exploding dog. i am in love with sam brown’s illustrations – i found his website probably about a year ago and go back every week to see the new drawings. he’s completely interactive; every day he draws from titles that are emailed or tweeted to him (although i’ve never succeeded at getting one through). it took me forever to choose a print to buy but i think my choice was the correct one – it makes me happy every time i pass by it. he also was kind enough...

things i love - a new feature for fridays

by | Friday, April 10, 2009 |

if you frequent this blog then you’re probably familiar with my love for dave, my dogs and many inanimate objects. i’ve decided to start a new feature dedicated to the latter of that list. let me be clear that, while there are a lot of inanimate objects that i adore, they are still objects and in the grand scheme of things do not hold a whole lot of importance...but they sure do bring me joy, which i thought i would share with you. you might also be thinking that i’m fickle or...

counting blessings

at the risk of being completely cheesolicious i give you my thanksgiving post...rather than a huge list of all the things i’m thankful for i’m going short and sweet. i’m thankful that i love my life and i get to spend every day working, living and laughing with my favorite person in the world and our dogs. i’m thankful that we’re all healthy. i’m thankful for our friends and family. i’m thankful that carly is finally housebroken. i hope everyone has a...

like jan brady i grew up with an overachiever for a sister (insert cindy, cindy, cindy)…i’ve grown to accept this in my later years which is why i can now proudly pass her talent on to you. she’s an immensely talented artist and has started taking commissions for her pet portraits. she did one for dave & i of kody and sage shortly after kody passed away and i can tell you it warms the cockles of my heart several times a day. if you’re in the market for warmed cockles please check out...
