aaahh spring...it’s at this time of year (in nashville anyway) that we can begin to get excited about brown turning to green, cold turning to warm, and grey skies turning blue. dave & i like to end our workdays with ball throwing and romps in the yard with the dogs (well, we throw the ball and the dogs do most of the romping). despite the fact that they’ve reached their 2 year mark, we still refer to fletcher & watson as “the puppies” because of their penchant to play like brothers, fight like...

i’m very proud to say my first buddhist retreat is behind me. it was an awesome experience but sitting doing absolutely nothing for 7 hours is hard work, however, not talking or making eye contact proved no problem as i’m a social misfit. the retreat took place in a country home outside nashville that sits on 120 acres which now serves as a spiritual renewal center. we had some time to walk the grounds after lunch – the one downfall being if you went further than 200 feet...

dave & i have worked really hard to keep my chickens safe from predators – we went to great lengths to make sure they were safe from the dogs, first and foremost, because we foolishly believed they were the chickens' greatest danger. no fox, coyote, dog, etc could get into the chicken yard – of this i am certain. apparently, probably because we are really city people living in the pseudo-country, it did not occur to us to protect them from air attacks. in the span of a few days i found 3 of...
